How do i know which product is best for me?
Our 16 products and their uses are briefly described, and we've taken photos of our top 9 best-selling gravel products. Each photograph has a yardstick placed beside the gravel to give you an idea of its scale.
how much do your products cost?
Our current price list includes the cost per yard of each product.
is there a minimum charge for loading pickups or belly-dumps?
Yes. Our minimum charge is $40 per pickup, or $60 per dump trailer/dump truck--all sizes. This includes the cost of materials, until the volume of the gravel purchased exceeds the minimum charge.
is there an easy way to calculate how many yards of gravel i need?
A cubic yards calculator will help you determine how many cubic yards of gravel you need, as well as the cost based on Polar Mining's price list.
does polar mining deliver gravel?
No. But we can refer you to drivers who will deliver our gravel products to you. Many of them have accounts with us and can streamline the process for you.
can i show up at polar mining to get a load of gravel without an appointment?
Yes. New and returning customers are welcome at any time within business hours (mid-May through mid-October, Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm).
i'm a first-time customer. what should I do when i arrive at your mine?
Drive up to the gravel staging area in front of the shop, look for the bright orange sign that says, "For Gravel Loading Wait Here and Honk." Do just that, stay in your vehicle, and the gravel loader will be with you shortly. If the loader is not parked by the shop, then we are out loading a customer and will return to the staging area ASAP.
how long does it typically take to pick up a load of gravel?
It depends on how busy we are, but we make every effort to load trucks as quickly and efficiently as possible. We try to load out customers in their order of arrival, but that's not always possible. If we get a ton of customers all at once, we can add a second loader.
I'm a homeowner who plans to take the Do-It-Yourself approach to graveling my driveway. do you have any advice for me?
We sure do. Our homeowner tips will help you avoid common mistakes and increase the likelihood that your project will last a long time.
what kinds of payment do you accept?
Checks, credit cards (with a 4% process fee added), or payment on account with customers who have set up an account in advance.

where exactly are you located?
541 Goldstream Road (1.5 miles from New Steese Highway) in Fox, Alaska.
are you open during the summer holidays?
We are closed for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day.
how do you determine the load size without a scale?
Our loaders have a bucket capacity of 5.25 to 5.5 cubic yards. When heaped, these buckets can both hold over 6 yards. We try to load 10-yard trucks with 2 full scoops and call it 10 yards, although it's usually a bit over that--an advantage to the customer. Keep in mind that scaling material would add more load time to each load cycle (time is money!) and each truck load would usually have a different billed amount, making it more involved for the trucker on their end for billing purposes. Consider also that when it's raining and the material is wet, you would be paying more for added water content. Our loading method saves you time and money.
can I buy material by the ton?
At present, No. We do have a scale onsite, but it's not yet set up and certified. Until the economics change or there is a larger demand for scaled gravel sales, we will be selling by volume.
